CBD Comfort Food – Baked Mac & Cheese

Mac and Cheese as Easy as C...B...D

The entire world is in the grip of the Covid-19 pandemic and many people find themselves committed to social distancing and self-imposed isolation. It’s times like this when many turn to comfort food. Unfortunately, many restaurants are now closed so if you want comfort food, you’ll probably have to make it yourself.

For the record, CBD will not treat or cure the coronavirus. If anyone tells you CBD or any other magic bullet supplement or medicine can protect you from Covid-19 or cure it, they are more than likely trying to trick you into buying their snake oil. 

However, CBD does have one particular benefit that can be hugely beneficial during this stressful time. CBD is known for is its anxiety-reducing benefits, and chances are good you may be experiencing some justified anxiety right now. 

Comforting, Anxiety-Reducing CBD Mac & Cheese Ingredients 

  • 8 Ounces of Elbow Macaroni
  • Sharp Cheddar Cheese (preferably in block form to be shredded into 2 cups later) 
  • ½ Cup of Grated Parmesan Cheese (Store bought is fine)
  • 3 Cups of Whole Milk
  • ½ Cup of Breadcrumbs
  • ¼ Cup of Salted Butter + 2 tbs of Butter for Breadcrumbs
  • 2 ½ Tablespoons of Flower 
  • Paprika

Baked CBD Mac & Cheese Directions 

  1. Cook the macaroni as you normally would. (You can use the directions on the packaging unless you’re making your own macaroni. For most homemade macaroni you’ll want to bring the lightly salted water to a boil and cook for about 90 seconds or until al dente, stirring continuously to prevent pasta from sticking together.) 
  2. Shred two cups of blocked cheddar cheese. Pre-shredded cheese is coated with cellulose to prevent clumping, which makes it less than ideal for making mac and cheese. It will still work but just not quite as well. 
  3. Melt the ¼ cup of salted butter in a saucepan and mix in some all-purpose flower until it begins to thicken into a “roux” used to thicken sauces (usually equal parts butter and flower by weight).
  4. Slowly add your whole milk to the roux while stirring and then start adding in your shredded sharp cheddar and grated parmesan – make sure you’re stirring the whole time.
  5. Lower the heat at this point while stirring and add in your CBD – the temperature is likely below 320 degrees, but you want to avoid heating up the CBD too much. It should be hot enough to keep the sauce liquified but not so hot it begins breaking down the CBD. 
  6. Put your cooked macaroni in a baking dish and pour your CBD-infused cheese sauce over the macaroni. 
  7. Melt the two tablespoons of set aside butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  8. Add the breadcrumbs to the butter and brown them.
  9. Spread those browned breadcrumbs with a pinch of paprika over the macaroni before putting it in the oven. 
  10. Bake the macaroni at around 300 degrees for 35 minutes. 
Keep in mind your preferred dosing. This recipe makes about four servings, so if you added a quarter of an oz of +PlusCBD™ Oil Gold Drops (2 oz 750 MG) to your CBD Mac & Cheese sauce then each serving would have about 23.5 mg of CBD.
